Fror 2 weeks now, I've attempted to cook all my meals on Saturdays for the entire next week. It's not been a horrible disaster, but it's proven to be a huge undertaking, one that can't be finished in one day. Part of the problem is that I don't have enough pans, counterspace, storage containers or hands to get it done. I am hoping to remedy that issue soon enough, by just keeping my eyes open at the thrift stores for the tools I need to do my jobs. Counterspace isn't something that I can take care of though, so that will just have to wait.
My new plan is as follows:
Fridays - when I get home from the stores and get the food put away, I'll start cooking the beans I'll need for the recipes. While they are cooking, I'll plan out my Saturday...so that I'll have the first 3-4 days of food done, so if I get sidetracked I still have that much done. Then I'll cut up the veggies and fruits that need to be frozen, and get them in the freezer.
Saturday - Start bright and early to get the food cooked. Get the breads started first since they take the most time overall. Have the kids help put together the meals and into containers to freeze. Work together to get the rest of the bread-type foods made (muffins, biscuits, donuts, etc) before the bread loaves are ready for the oven.
Monday - Work on the rest of the week's food.
Hopefully, breaking it between 3 days will help alleviate the stress.
The adventures of the Salesman's Family of 7 (soon to be!). A little blog about how to be a salesman's family frugally and responsibly...and all the wackiness that comes with it!
